no spectators: the art of burning man

On Sunday morning in DC, we went to see this beautiful exhibition at the Renwick Gallery. We only had a very short amount of time before we needed to head off, but I could have spent hours. Here are some of the things I saw:

It was an outstandingly beautiful exhibition, go and see it if you can!

Ane Brun | All We Want Is Love

night sightseeing in washington dc

Sometime in the evening (after this day on the road), we arrived in Washington DC, and were treated to supper in this beautiful kitchen. Loren, our host in New York, had asked his parents, Sandy and Paul, if they'd be willing to host us - five women they had never met before - for the night, and they said yes, and treated us like queens! The kind of hospitality I strive for.

And just look at their beautiful home!

This is Ginger, we became friends quickly. :)

And then Sandy asked if we wanted to go on a night tour of the memorials! Uhm, yes of course!

We started with the Jefferson Memorial.

They do like their huuuge statues of men in this country.

I'll take normal sized women like these any day, thanks.

Next up, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial:

That one was my favourite, it told so many stories.

This is the way in to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, but all I could think about was the statues that Atreyu runs through in Neverending Story. I wasn't sure why, because it looks nothing like it, but having seen that scene again now that I'm home, I realise it has the same golden light; I tend to care about different kinds of light, you know.

Yep

As a park, I liked this one a lot! And I liked that there were so many people enjoying it despite the fact that it was well past midnight when we were there.

National World War II Memorial: Nope. Just nope. A very patriotic, pompous, scary structure to me. But interesting to see, despite, or maybe because of that.

At least we found the lindy hoppers!

And lastly, the Lincoln Memorial.
- So, Abraham Lincoln ... I said to Emily. What did he do?
- You mean for a living? she answered.
We were quite tired at this point. :)

also: this view would not be complete without this clip.

Louis Prima | Night Train

a roadtrip to philadelphia

Saturday morning in Brooklyn, and roadtrip time!!!

Isabelle & Virginia.

We started our morning with delicious bagels in the sun.

And then we left New York with a car full of gorgeous women (if I may say so myself) and a not small amount of snacks (SERIOUSLY THOUGH CHEDDAR & SOUR CREAM WHY DON'T WE HAVE THIS IN SWEDEN). The niffler likes crisps, too!

First stop: Philadelphia! Where we visited Virginia's aunt and her wife, who are cat breeders, and have a house full of these beautiful Devon Rex cats.

They're so soft!

It was so much fun just sitting there chatting in their living room. I'm not very adventurous as you know, and just being in someone's home, in a foreign country talking about life and cultural differences truly is adventure enough for me. It's SO interesting and fulfilling.

In the afternoon we took a walk and did a mini version of sightseeing in Philadelphia.

Things were American, historical and stuff. We looked at a broken bell which was some sort of symbol of freedom and I was like: you guys, this is cracked. Is no one getting the hint? Really?

So this thing about everything being ridiculously big in the US? It is SO TRUE. Just look at this ice cream cup, it's "small". Whaaat. This is NOT a small amount of ice cream. I mean, I'm happy with it, because ice cream, but still.

My crew!

And then we drove to Washington DC with the niffler proudly watching over us. More on that in the next post!
