a sunday in amsterdam

On our Sunday morning in Amsterdam we were invited to breakfast in the garden by our host, Karien. So lovely!


Then we went to class and then it was lunch time.


Our fabulous organiser, Dorine!


After lunch I skipped class to sit outside and talk to Dáire, because he's awesome.


Later (after some well needed rest/ sleep back at the apartment) Mattias and I went to dinner. We walked to this place called Foodhallen, which was really great!



Sooo much good food to choose from.




I asked Mattias to take my picture. It's really hard being photographed!


... Oh well, you can see what I look like at least. :)


And then we walked to the evening venue.


And was met by the sweet sounds from this man's guitar and voice. Mattias and I listened for about 30 seconds, then looked at each other an nodded. Meaning: Right - when do we get him to Gothenburg? He was very reluctant to travel, but don't worry, we'll get him here so that you can dance to his music, too. Duketown Slim - so good!

Annette DJ:ed in the break and it was AWESOME. She played all the songs I needed to hear and I had the BEST dance night.



Thank yous and goodbyes must be said by the end of the night, whether we want to or not.


The Gentle Sorrows say thank you and goodbye, too! It was a lovely gig and a lovely weekend (and I am so happy I got to share it with Mattias. Traveling with him is the best).


And then, when we get back to the apartment in the middle of the night, Mattias needs to eat. As always. :) (Here is a good one from back in the day, EBI 2014. :))

Waking up slowly, slowly on a Saturday morning in Amsterdam in the prettiest of apartments.




Had an orange for first breakfast as always.


Our super lovely host (who lived in the apartment next door) had left bread for us, fresh from the bakery. How nice is that?


They had also left hagelslag, a Dutch invention that is like sprinkles, but soft, and that people have on bread? I thought they were joking at first, but after some research, it does seem like a thing! I had to try it. It was weird, but good weird. :)



Then we went out to see the town.


We very quickly ended up at Mook Pancakes, after a recommendation from Mattias' girlfriend, for brunch.



I was not hard to convince that it was a good idea. :)




Then we went on a tourist canal boat! It turned out to be a lovely idea. Mattias fell asleep next to me and I just sat there for an hour, enjoying seeing the buildings and canals from the water while resting my tired legs.




Dinner at Rôtisserie where we had what was possibly the best veggie burger I have ever had.


And then we went back to the apartment to get some rest before the evening.


Twilight Blues & Fusion was such a lovely event. The Saturday fusion band was not my favorite, and the blues room was too warm to move in, so I spent a lot of time sitting on a couch talking with friends. Which is a really great way to spend time at dance events, when you have so many lovely dance friends living in other cities that you only get to see every once in a while.


And later David Keogh played a set, just before what needed to be my bedtime, and that I really enjoyed!

The Chainsmokers & Coldplay | Something Just Like This

walking in amsterdam

Amsterdam! I had a whole Friday to spend as I wanted on the first day of my trip, and I spent it my favorite way: walking for hours and hours + taking photographs.



I started the day with delicious brunch in De Pijp.



And then I started walking.


This city has so many bikes that they leave bicycle shaped sand traces on the sidewalk?






Around noon was getting really warm outside, and I walked into a supermarket just because of their lovely air conditioner. Found cheese!


But this is what I walked out with. I sat on a bench by a canal, had my picnic lunch and felt very much like a tourist, in the best sense of the word.


Then: more walking.





Found my favorite corner of the whole day! I loved the intersections the most. Bridges and beautiful views everywhere.









After my day on the town, I went back to the apartment to meet Mattias, who had just arrived. (We had our gig with the Gentle Sorrows that night; I wrote about it in this post.)
