Last month when I posted my phone photos from this year's Swingin' Spring, I went back through a few years of previous Swingin' Spring photography to reminisce a little. I figured I might as well bring a few favourites back and show them again. Some of them are delightful, after all, and dance photography makes me so happy. It's also kind of nice to be able to go back to your past work and see how you've grown, isn't it?
I'll start with 2013. I'll admit that there are photos from Swingin' Spring in 2007, 2008 and 2010 on my hard drives as well ... But those photos are probably better forgotten. :) If nothing else because they are just too dark and blurry. I brought the camera to dancing just to practise, and because it was fun. And I'm so happy I did! Because if I hadn't started practising then, I wouldn't have taken the photos I do today. With that said we might all be happier if those photos are left alone for now. :)
2013
I wasn't the official photographer in 2013, but still brought my camera along just for fun. I didn't have a flash at that point, so these are all natural light. Which is nice, but too limiting for me in the long run.
2014
I have a flash at this point! I'm not good at it! It shows! But the moments I choose to capture, I'm still enjoying.
2015
These are nicer! And I'm playing with angles and light. I need to do that some more.
2016
Wasn't the official photographer this year either but brought my camera and got a few snaps just for fun.
2017
2017 was a good year! A year where, looking back, I feel I found some sort of "voice" ... I guess in this case it just means that the photos seem more similar to the ones I would take today, ha.
2018
New evening venue, much crisper photos!
2019
Now these photos I don't mind at all. :)
